Sleeping Cabooses - British Antarctic Halley Research Station

Mr Box were asked to build a number of sleeping quarters for workers building the British Antarctic Halley V Research Station. Halley I to Halley IV were built directly on the snow and were each abandoned within ten years, having been crushed by the overlying ice. Approximately 1.2 metres of snow accumulate each year on the Brunt Ice Shelf and buildings on the surface become covered and eventually crushed by snow, necessitating periodic rebuilding of the station. Halley V has the main buildings built on steel platforms that are raised annually to keep them above the snow surface.

Obviously the units needed to be super insulated and specially sealed to prevent the ingress of fine blown snow.
